Margaret Hall

Margaret Hall, now our wedding organist, is well known to the St Peter’s congregation. She was organist/choir director at the Church from 2004 to 2008, and returned again to play for services from September 2011 to early 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium, has played in concerts at the Sydney Town Hall and Opera House and performed with the Sydney Symphony and Sydney Youth Orchestras.

Also known as a theatre organist, Margaret has given many concerts in Australia and New Zealand as well as London and Seattle, and has a very successful recording to her credit.

Combining her interests in music and nostalgia, Margaret was presenter of a privately owned mechanical music collection in southern Sydney (1995-2000). “Margaret’s Music Room” followed, where she presented a programme of theatre organ music and images of the grand picture palaces of yesteryear.

Following three decades of performing and teaching, Margaret currently combines work as a full-time medical receptionist with a continued interest in performing.

The organ, installed in 1885, was made by Messrs Maley, Young and Oldknow of London and is the only known example of their work in Australia. Well-known Sydney organ builder and organist, Peter Jewkes, has described the St Peter’s organ as of “considerable musical and historical value on a world scale.”
